Sharon Dennis, born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, is somewhat of an oxymoron. Growing up pumping gas at her father's station, Sharon majored in earth science and math at the University of Virginia (UVA), earned a master's degree in petroleum engineering and had a successful career in her field (literally). A full five feet tall, she is almost out-sized by her guitar yet considers herself a very big person. And within her analytical mind also resides the soul of a poet, producing beautiful music from the heart. Sharon has been making music since the age of four, when she first fell in love with the guitar.
"I never had the chance to get to know my mom as an adult," she replies, in answer to the question of why she moved back from Texas to Virginia and went from being a petroleum engineer to singer. "I was afraid that I would miss my opportunity, since she had been very ill, so I quit my job to move closer to my family. Life is very precious," she reflects, "people are the jewels that are to be treasured. I just want to let people know that, if we are not careful, life can pass you by."
Sharon is a consummate songwriter, sings lead on most of The Braeded Chord's songs, and plays a mean guitar. She also throws in a little mandolin, harmonica, and even a banjo once in awhile.
